India is a secular country and also the land of festivals. All religions have a different culture and being a secular country, there are no. of the festival to be celebrated in India. As we are talking about festivals and celebrations, it is obvious to discuss festival outfits. Everyone loves to get ready and look beautiful whether it is a normal day or festive season.

Today we will talk about the festival outfits for different Indian festivals. the most popular and important Indian festivals which are not celebrated in India only but also celebrated worldwide.


Diwali is the festival of lights celebrated by the people of India. This festival leads to cleaning & decorating house and workplace, worship and celebration and when it comes to celebrating festivals, you are supposed to look elegant with your vibrant outfit and look.

Now, the question is what to wear on Diwali? Diwali is a traditional festival. So, most of the women love to go with ethnic outfits. If you love ethnic outfits, the options are Saree, Lahenga, gown, salwar suit and Kurti. On the other hand, you can wear indo-western fusion such as Kurta & sharara set, ethnic maxi dress, draped saree and Kurti with dhoti pant.

On Diwali, wear the dress of your choice that suits you the most. Add some jewelry, make hairstyle accordingly, apply light makeup and you are ready for the celebration.


Holi is one of the most important festivals in India and celebrated with joy and happiness. This is the festival of colors and festival of love. People celebrate this festival by spraying on applying different colored powder over each other so most of the people prefer a white outfit for this festival.

You can wear ethnic, indo-western or western cloth for the Holi event.

Preferred ethnic wear – Off white saree, Patiala with short Kurti, Kurti and leggies, etc

Indo-western outfit – Ethnic skirt with Shirt, Dhoti pant with frock design Kurti, Long Kurti with palazzo, ethnic blouse with palazzo, etc

Western wear outfit – Crop top with jeans, jeans and Kurti, Loose top and denim shorts, etc.

Whatever outfit you wear, you can add boho jewelry with it and sunglass to make you look cool.

Durga Puja

Durga Puja is a festival of Hindu, also known as Navratri. This is the festival of nine days in which people worship a goddess Durga and her different Avatars. This festival is celebrated in different states in a different manner.

In West Bengal, there is a grand celebration of this festival. So People of that state and some others prefer conventional outfit of West Bengal in Durga Puja. i.e. White saree with a designed red border and red blouse. This outfit is totally traditional and creates such a classy and beautiful look.

Navratri  festival outfits

On the other hand, in many states, people celebrate this festival by playing dandiya and Garba and prefer Gujarati Outfit with silver or Boho jewelry. For Garba or Dandiya, You can wear ethnic as well as Indo- western. Such as typical Gujarati designer Lahenga, Jumpsuit, maxi dress, palazzo with Blouse, etc.

So if you have to attend Puja, You can create Bengali Look. i.e. Wear white or off white saree with red Border, Put a red big Bindi and apply a bit heavy make with red lipstick and you are all set for Puja.

For the Dandiya or Garba event, You can wear anything of your choice, like palazzo with the blouse, draped saree, maxi dress, etc. Just add a shrug or jacket or blouse that has mirror work and thread embroidery.

So wear a dress according to the event. Wear waterproof makeup as dancing will make you sweat. Oxidized jewelry is a must in order to create Navratri look and Kolhapuri footwear will be the icing on the cake.

Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi is the festival of Hindu in which Lord Ganesha is worshipped by the people of India with great devotion. This festival brings peace and happiness. People bring the idol of Lord Ganesha to their house. Houses are being decorated and then it comes to the outfit you should wear. If you are confused about what to wear on this occasion, let me give you some ideas.

Talking about Dress-up for this festival, you should wear traditional outfits like saree, lehenga, salwar suit, Kurti, etc. Choose the cloth of fabric which is comfortable according to the weather. Some outfit choices according to the trend are:

  • Anarkali Suit
  • Full-length dress
  • Long Skirt with Long Kurta
  • Net Saree
  • Lahenga choli with Dupatta
  • Silk Saree
Ganesh Chaturthi festival outfit

Traditionally the dress which has been worn and loved the most is Silk Saree with golden jewelry. A big nose pin is compulsory in that traditional look. This traditional look is inspired by Maharashtrian’s conventional look as Ganeshotshav is celebrated grandly in Mumbai, Maharashtra.


Eid is the festival celebrated worldwide. This festival is the symbol of sacrifice. Eid is celebrated at the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. It is an Islamic festival so the outfit of this festival is a bit different from those of the other festival.

For Eid, women wear embroidered salwar suit of different patterns which includes frock designed Kurti with palazzo, Kurti with straight pant, etc. This outfit gives an amazing look. Wear this type of dress on Eid with a statement piece of jewelry and designer flat footwear.

National Festival

In India, there are three national festivals. i.e. Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti. These festivals have their own importance. People celebrate these festivals to express their love for the country of India.

As the flag of India, Tricolor is consisting of three colors, i.e. Saffron, white and green, on the National festival, most of the people wear the dress of these three colors and also prefer Indian outfits like Salwar Kurta, suit and all.

To get ready for the national festival events, do experiments with these three colors and add some statement piece jewelry with your traditional outfit. Pick the dress of your choice and get ready. You can go all white with saffron or green dupatta. Floral is also trending and loved by most of the people. Ethnic wear brands avail a wide range of clothes.

    1. WordPress is not free. Blogger is free. You can start with a free platform and see how it goes. If it performs well for you then go for the paid platform.
